Sonic Presence of an Absent Choreography
Sonic Presence of an Absent Choreography is an immersive eight-channel sound installation and choreographic environment consisting entirely of the recorded sound created through a dance. The installation captures and reveals the ephemeral and memorial presence of the performing body on stage through the immaterial media of sound.
The sonic choreography will take various elements to reconstruct a dance, from the perspective of the dancer and the perspective of the site. The installation offers the possibility for the viewer, or in the case the listener, to step on the stage and experience a choreographic environment as the dance happens. The designed audience capacity for the installation is from one to five people at a time, creating an intimate, focused tone for the exploration of the movement, space and sound.
The work was created for and presented in Prague Quadrennial 2019 by visual artist and choreographer Anna Nykyri, sound artist Félix Blume, choreographer and dancer Veli Lehtovaara and curator Andrea Valencia.
